Using scope as a criterion, computers
can be classified into two broad categories:
1. Dedicated or Special purpose
computers: These are computers that are designed to carry out only specified
task. The series of instructions that these types of computer follow to carry
out its operation is in-built and cannot be modified. E.g. word processor,
robots used in car manufacturing plants
2. General Purpose Computers: These are
computers designed to perform a wide variety of operations. They can be
programmed to carry out scientific oriented applications or business oriented
ones just by changing the series of instructions in its memory.
